I am posting these notes ahead of the meeting, just so you will have them! Ginny and Sandy will be presenting a demo on Chalk Painting at the April 27th meeting so that guild members will have the knowledge to do a little painting on their own!
I hope to see you in the morning!

I am sure many of you remember this rug from our Denver Hook In rug show last year. We had many wonderful rugs and I hope that as you are planning on joining us for this fun event again this year, that you will consider bringing several of your rugs to put in our show! The more the merrier and we love having a good time!

Laura Pierce will be coming to teach in June of 2013. . . . . that will be June 17, 18 and 19th! We have reserved Kendrick cottage for this fun camp. Lunches will be catered from a local restaurant. . . so all you have to think about is HOOKING and learning from this nationally acclaimed teacher! What a fantastic opportunity to come and get in on a great teacher at a fantastic rate! Cost of the camp for local members is just $175.00! Yep, it is a deal! We still have a couple of slots left for those who still want to get in on the fun. You can contact any board member for information (see email addresses on the home page.) Cost of this camp for non ATHA members is an additional $50. . . . which is still a deal. . . AND you will automatically become both ATHA national and local members to boot.

Laura's class is an open class, so feel free to bring whatever pattern you are interested in. She will have wools in portrait colors available. Laura is very adept at both fine and wide cut hooking and is an excellent source for learning wide cut portraits and landscapes!

Check it out!! Beth has finished her rug and it is ready for the Hook In Rug SHOW coming up May 18th!!!!! Hope you all are bringing your rugs to show at this event. We all learn so much from each other AND the added bonus is the inspiration we get from seeing all the rugs at the rug show. So, please bring rugs to share and inspire others with your creativity!

Just yesterday I noticed jonquils emerging in a friend's yard. What a wonderful thing to see some signs that spring is really here!

Just to give a head's up. . . . The April meeting will be held on the 27th from 9 - 4. Sharon and Cheryl will be bringing snacks. Ginny and Sandy will be doing a demo on Chalk Painting! This is in preparation for a play day project that we will have in early Fall.
Our May meeting will be held on the 25th of May from 1-6. Jenny Schechter will be leading this meeting.

The June meeting will be held on June 22 from 9 - 4. Mary Ann will lead the meeting.

Just look at the fabulous job Sue Rust is doing with Bea Brock's Birds and Berries design! This rug is big and will be so beautiful when it is complete.

We saw a lot of wonderful rugs at this month's guild meeting. New designs and some old ones being finished up. Check out the Photo Album to see the other rugs shown at this month's meeting.

February Meeting

The February meeting was a lot of fun. It was great to see everyone there and we nearly filled the room!

In this photo Teresa and Ginny struggle to hold up a rug that Teresa designed and is in the process of hooking. She is using a 10 cut and it is a very heavy and fabulous rug! See more pics on photo page.

Sandy Schleuter gave a program geared toward a creative challenge. Rather than the doodle rugs that we have all read about. . . . Sandy did the doodling on each persons backing material. The challenge was in how each person then interpreted that doodle. By the end of the day we had 2 folks who had completed fish, one with a cowboy, one with sheep and another contemplating a ship. I believe the majority of folks were shy about jumping in and it is hard to keep your mind on developing an idea in a room full of folks that you have not seen for a solid month - and want to catch up with! I know that even the people who did not actively participate in this exercise still learned a lot just from thinking about and watching what took place. Thank you, Sandy for the fun exercise!

Next month's meeting will have a program on different types of proddy. If you want to get in on the fun, please bring a piece of backing, a pair of hemostats if you have a pair and some 3" wide strips of wool. (We will be cutting this to proddy.)

Please remember that the March meeting will be held at the Arvada Police station on the 30th of the month from 9-4! Hope to see you there!!

Come to our February Meeting and expand your Creativity!

Happy Valentine's Day!
We have a grey snowy day here in Golden as the noon bell rings and the hooking possibilities abound! Come to our February meeting where we will have a fun exercise in creative thinking and development! Please bring a blank piece of backing that will fit your frame and a large baggy of cut strips. (We will have linen available for purchase at the meeting). Sandy Schleuter will be heading up the program and it is sure to be fun and thought provoking.

We had a great time demonstrating hooking and talking to the crowd at the Sew Expo last weekend. Many thanks to Jenny Schechter, MaryAnn Goetz, Gloria Shone, Judy Peterson, Emily Scudder, Pam Sisk, Cheryl Bollenbach, Quink Arlt and the person responsible for organizing our group - Teresa Rapstine! It is always a lot of fun to meet and talk with folks who are interested in learning more about rug hooking. Education is key and teaching the differences between Traditional Rug Hooking and Latch or punch is an eye opener for many people.
