![]() I am back from Little River and here is a view off my deck. . . . complete with visitor who came every morning looking for a hand out. Wow! This year has flown by! Our guild is taking a program break until the new year. BUT, we will get together on the 23rd of November at the Arvada Police station to hook together from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Bring snacks to share. In December we will meet on the 28th from 9 - 4. Bring 4 - 5 (3" x 12" or longer) wool strips if you are interested in the RLC game! Everyone is bringing snacks for this holiday meeting. This is just a reminder!
Everyone who is interested in having a rug on display at the Koelbel Library, should bring the rug in to the ATHA meeting on Saturday. Sharon Oppegarde is in charge of setting up this display. You can wait and bring the rug in later if you take measurements and have a photo of the rug to give her on Saturday. She is organizing the display, and wants a photo so that she can plan on where each rug will hang, The meeting for September promises to be a lot of fun, so I hope you can come!
Pam Sisk will be doing a demonstration on "Repurposed Flatware boxes". You would not believe how handy these boxes can be. . . . so come and see what she has done. Pam is also writing an article on this for the Dec/January ATHA magazine, Rugger's Companion. Mary Ann Goetz will also have a demo on a fun thing she learned at camp. I believe this involves a make and take! This Saturday we will be discussing and finalizing a Teaching Contract that we will be using for upcoming and future teachers coming to our guild. And then we get to see and learn about new projects that we are all involved hooking! ![]() Well, here I am racing to get the news and photos from the August meeting up on the web — and our September meeting is this coming Saturday! Time flies! Here is a rug done by Jenny Schechter, using wonderful textured wools. Don't you just love this color combination? For our August meeting, Judy Peterson gave a demo on marbelizing and did a twist with a little shibori thrown in! The wools in her stash are gorgeous and she brought lots to show! I hope that some of you are interested in a drive to Nebraska to help them celebrate their hook-in! Click here for information about that event and about a retreat with Teachers that happens in November!
![]() Just showing off their perfect model stances (check out their feet) AND their rugs from the Judy Cripps class are Mary Ann, Amy, Barbara, and Judy P. They are ready to start their borders! Big news for the guild is a change in dates for the 2014 Denver Hook In. We have moved the date to the Fall so that we are not competing with all of the graduation events that occur in the Spring. The 2014 Hook In will be September 13th. Cynthia Norwood will be the guest speaker and she will be teaching a camp prior to the Hook In (dates - Sept 10 - 12, 2014). So, be sure to sign up if you are interested in taking a class from Cynthia! That class will be held at the same church where we have the Hook IN - in the Commons Room. ![]() L - R: Cheryl, Sharon, Sheri, Shawn, Laura, Londi, Emily, Sue, Judy, Carolyn, Gloria and Pam. Laura's camp was held at beautiful Kendrick Cottage in Golden. The cottage has great lighting supplemented with lots of natural light coming in through clerestory windows. Laura brought some luscious wool and lots of gorgeous rugs to show. Students chose a variety of subjects and the class was made up of 5 people working on human portraits, 1 working on a trio of animal portraits, 3 students concentrated on landscapes and 2 brought florals that they had b. Look below to see some of the rugs that Laura brought with her to inspire the class. We learned several new techniques for perfecting foliage and backgrounds. It was a fun 3 days and we got a lot accomplished! ![]() Judy Cripps had a 1 day workshop that focused on creating borders for rugs. The example on your left is the pattern that we all received on linen. We spent a good part of the morning color planning and hooking our rugs as we listened to Judy talk about border design. She brought a load of rugs for us to look at for examples. Please do take a look on our photos page to see those rugs. Everyone had the border designed and drawn in by Judy. . . . some folks came prepared and got borders drawn for other rugs. The wool Judy brought with her to class sold quickly. . . . and was just a sampl Sharon Gunderson has just let me know the following details of a Hook In that will be held later this summer. . . . .
